Anushka Ataullahjan is passionate about improving the world around her. From a young age she has been heavily involved in a variety of volunteer activities. It is this passion that led her to pursue a career in global health. Anushka has dedicated her career to improving the lives of women in developing countries. She recently spent 13 months living in rural Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan conducting research on family planning. During this period, she engaged in daily village life, working to understand the difficulties faced living in a rural community.
Anushka’s experiences living in rural Pakistan and growing up as a first generation Pakistani Canadian also inform her poetry. She believes that poetry is a great platform through which to spark change. Anushka hopes that her words will cause individuals to question their assumptions about the lives of those labeled ‘other’.
